| VITA Nadja Michael grew up near Leipzig. She studied singing in Stuttgart and at university in Bloomington/Indiana, USA. The singer regularly gives guest performances at the most important opera houses worldwide under the most famous present-day conductors and at all important festivals in the world of opera. With Salome, in February 2007 the singer experienced a sensational success at Milan’s Scala, followed by an equally successful Fidelio at the State Opera in Vienna. After successful productions, including Salome at the ROH Covent Garden in London, in 2008 had a spectacular debut as Médée by Cherubini at La Monnaie in Brussels. Her Lady Macbeth/VERDI opening the 08/09 season at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich was euphorically received by the public and press. Her debut in North America again as Salome at the San Francisco Opera at the end of the year 2009 was a big success. Nadja Michael has been honoured with many prizes for her singing and artistic performances. She was recently nominated for the coveted SOUTH BANK SHOW ITV AWARD 2009 in LONDON, and received the GOLDENE STIMMGABEL (Golden Tuning Fork) from the ARTE TV channel – both for her SALOME at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London. Nadja Michael has also made a name for herself as a producer and director of her own productions. Her ORLANDO MISTERIOSO was recorded by ARTE, among others, and will be shown at the Theater an der WIEN in Vienna and at the MEGARON ATHENS. The artist wrote, produced and sang the theme song for the ceremonial opening of the 12th World Athletics Championship at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin in 2009. The following parts in new productions are scheduled up to 2012: Lady Macbeth in "Macbeth" by Verdi in Chicago, Fidelio in "Fidelio" by Beethoven in Amsterdam, Marie in "Wozzeck" by Alban Berg at the State Opera in Berlin under Daniel Barenboim, Lady Macbeth in "Macbeth" by Verdi at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, "Médée" by Cherubini at the Théâtre des Champs Élysées in Paris and Poppea in "L'Incoronazione di Poppea"/Monteverdi in Madrid and at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. |
